1.ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
 
Responsible for the inspection and monitoring of activities associated with the construction and maintenance of infrastructure works across agencies to ensure that construction materials used and procedures comply with project plans and specifications.
 
 
 
2.DIMENSIONS OF POSITION:
 
A.NATURE AND SCOPE:
 
The Technician functions at the first level of management and is directly responsible for ensuring that works undertaken by Contractors proceed according to plan and within contractual specifications. As such, the incumbent conducts inspection site visits to confirm the accuracy of stated quantities and the general acceptability of the quality of finished work in terms of quality of construction materials used and strict adherence to specifications. The Senior Technician liaises closely with the Engineer. 
B.PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES TO ATTAIN ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: (These statements identify specific activities necessary to attain the overall objectives while not precluding the position holder from carrying out other related duties that may be inherent in the position)
 
ASSISTS in formulating and executing a regular programme of inspection for ongoing infrastructure works.
 
ASSISTS in the review process for proposed designs submitted by Consultants with a view to ensuring that all relevant knowledge gained from local operating conditions and experience are appropriately factored in.
 
MEASURES distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of construction work and layouts. Verifies levels, alignment and elevation of road structures. Prepares, as required, sketches, drawings, etc.
 
OBSERVES work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications. Prepares samples of unapproved materials for laboratory testing.
 
INTERPRETS blueprints and specifications and discusses deviations from specified construction procedures with Contractor and Supervisors.
 
RECORDS quantities of materials received or used during specified periods. Maintains log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports.
 
COMPUTES monthly estimates of work completed and verify certify invoices and claims from Consultants and Contractors.
 
PREPARES periodic progress reports for various projects as required by Engineer.
 
PREPARES periodic activity reports as necessary to determine progress in attaining set objectives.
 
SUPERVISES the work of others as required by the Engineer

E.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE:
 
 
Diploma in Civil Engineer from University of Guyana or a recognized University.
 
Plus Optional
 
OTD, or equivalent, in Building & Civil Engineering of the City & Guilds of London Institute.
 
Plus
 
At least four years' experience in the field of Civil Engineering executing field inspections and exposure to basic management training. Must be familiar with the design and construction of infrastructure projects and other civil construction works.
 
The individual should be willing to travel to all Regions.
